About

Inspired by the superb Freak Show Film Festival in Orlando, Florida - where Yellow Fever Productions very own Battle Of The Bone won the Audience Choice Award in 2008, The Last Light won Best Actor in 2011, and Splash Area won Best SFX & Jury's Choice in 2012 - the YFIFF was set up in 2009 by company director and indie film maker, George Clarke (Battle Of The Bone; The Knackery; The Last Light; Chaplins Time Traveller & Splash Area).

The aim of the festival was to bring a real underground and independent festival to Northern Ireland, and at the same time, create a gateway for both local and international talent of the film world that would get the audience and recognition they deserve for their work!

Starting in Belfast in the Stormont Hotel, then at the wonderful Movie House Cinema and Holiday Inn, the first YFIFF kicked off in 2009 with an amazing array of films from all around the world and an audience from places such as Hong Kong, the USA, UK and Ireland. Genres included action, comedy, horror, martial arts, drama and even musicals, with each one highly respected by the viewers and almost every one walking away with an award at the end of the festival.

Previous guests have included Hong Kong based producer and casting director Mike Leeder (Rush Hour 3, Fearless, Man Of Tai Chi, Man With The Iron Fists) and prolific US director Albert Pyun (Cyborg, Captain America, Nemesis, Road To Hell).

“Unlike all the other art forms, film is able to seize and render the passage of time, to stop it, almost to possess it in infinity. I’d say that film is the sculpting of time.”

– Andrei Tarkovsky
